In the following sections the authors present some key factors in order to give an idea about Luxembourg’s diversified society, its welfare system and give a concrete example of the transnationalisation of a specific welfare benefit and the underlying philosophy, showing the difficulties of a small nation-state to open up some of its welfare schemes to immigrants. Furthermore they show, to which extent immigrants and nationals consume and contribute, and present some conclusions.
