The artist’s view on youth culture
In curator Luc Spada’s latest attempt to answer what it means to be young, the exhibition aims to showcase the various ephemeral moments of youth culture that young people have been experiencing with high intensity ever since:
Young people want to experience every moment, because they do not know them all yet or still think they recognize something new in that moment. Or that they must recognize something new in it. These are moments of youth that become youth culture.”
Adding the social sciences view
Apart from the artistic view on youth culture, we are especially happy to contribute to the exhibition with research-based perspectives on youth culture.
A team of youth researchers at the CCY took the opportunity to share their knowledge on youth culture from the perspective of the social sciences. To that end, we exhibit five selected topics on youth culture under the title “BEING YOUNG. BEING RESEARCHED – Youth and their living environments through the eyes of research”.
For your convenience, we have summarized our five topics here:
Being young means…
… to become someone: Transitions into adulthood
… to challenge yourself and test limits: The example of cannabis use
… to express your own creativity: Between analog and digital media
… to claim spaces: The example of youth work
…to become involved: Youth participation over time
